Being open

These few days, I have been absorbing a lot of knowledge and wisdom from many areas especially in religion. Decided not to let my life revolve around my job hunt, I have finally started picking some books up for reading. And now I am interested in the history of major religions and their teachings as well. Haha, the amount and knowledge and wisdom from Chinese History is so immense already and let us not forget about the knowledge and wisdom that is needed for business, finance and statistics (its application in business areas) where my other passion is and now comes another area which is History of Religion which from the looks of it is another immense area.

I think why I want learn this is because actually I have found my knowledge in religion to be quite minimal, like most Singaporeans, until these few years when someone share with me the history of major religions. What fascinates me is how come most religions have evolve into this current state. Whether right or wrong I have no idea at all until I have look at the teachings and everything then it would be better for me to make a more informed judgement call. I strongly believe that most religions at the initial stage advocated the correct values and to help people achieve their spiritual needs, one of the needs that is stated by Maslow.

But learning about religion have let me adopt a new approach to learning and that is to have an open mind. Yes, more open than last time. I seldom dispute at the first instance when I receive new knowledge and wisdom compared to last time where I dispute straightaway if it does not agree with the initial idea or the foundation of knowledge that I have, but I must say I have a lot of initial ideas or good foundation of knowledge. Hahaha!

Anyway, with more knowledge coming in, I also need to spend more time to verify the facts and logic behind these knowledge and wisdom, but hei I like the research and think-through process so I do not mind. But I can see the difference in being open compared to a person that thinks that what he/she learned is good enough and there is no need to explore further. The thinking of enough is really dangerous because it really limits a person horizon and also the chance to receive new knowledge and wisdom, some of which can be very useful. Hopefully there is a chance I can open the person's mind in the future. :)

Well now is to implement this openness and also mindfulness to other areas that I am passionate about and see how high a level I can reach. And use myself as an example to open up more people's mind, esp... :)

Cheers!

"We are responsible for our own happiness." (This is what is coming into my mind when watching the 9pm channel 8 drama.)
