Achieving the Result
Well this is a modification of a Buddhist talk that I heard this morning. Suddenly a thought struck on me that what I have learnt from this talk can be applied in achieving the results that we want in a task or goals in our life.
So what are the things that are needed to achieve the results that we want? There are altogether 6 of them and they are:
1) Faith/Confidence
2) Wisdom
3) Energy/Effort
4) Focus
5) Mindfulness
6) Strategy
Faith/Confidence and Wisdom and Strategy
First thing first, you need to have faith or confidence that you can achieve the results that you want. If you do not have the confidence or strong faith that you can achieve, there is no way you will start the process of working towards your goals or results that you want. But take note that you need wisdom, to balance with faith. Very simple, if you do not have a look at the resources that you have and practise wisdom about what is possible and what is not, it becomes a blind faith and at the end when you did not achieve what you want, you are going to be very disappointed and might destroy the self-confidence that you have.
You also need wisdom to set up the right strategy. For example, if you want to see a beautiful sunset, I doubt going to the East would help you. If you do not have the knowledge to see that looking at the sunset, you should find a place that is not covered and allow you to have direct look at the horizon, there is no way you are going to see a beautiful sunset.
So with wisdom, you can set up the right strategy, have faith that you can achieve and start the process of achieving it.
Energy/Effort and Focus
As you start on the process of achieving your results or success, you have to put in lots of energy or effort into the process. To walk from point A to B, you have to keep on repeating the process of putting your left leg forward followed by the right leg forward until you reach your definition. The same thing applies to putting in effort, the next action or effort that you put in builds on top of what you have done previously so that you can reach your destination. And this have to be balanced with Focus.
Yes, you need to focus your effort on the correct direction/area as depicted by your strategy. If the focus is wrong how could you achieve the results you want? So you might have a lot of energy (which is derived from passion and motivation), but if your focus is wrong, it does not amount to anything.
Mindfulness
With all the above, mentioned, the most important ingredient is mindfulness. Be very mindful about the whole process. Be able to see that the right wisdom has been applied, that there is correct amount of faith, be able to see when to make a change in your strategy so that you are still on course to achieve your success even though external circumstances have changed, be able to see that your right level of effort is applied and right amt of effort is conserved for the next step and be able to see that your effort is applied at the correct area/focus.
Of course this is just a very brief description, it is not meant to help individuals to see what are the basic building blocks of achieving success. Of course, there are other factors as well but I personally think these six are the minimum that one needs to pay attention to so that they can achieve the results that they want.
